JOY 94.9 is proud to announce that their KYLIE CALL JOY campaign has successfully landed a coveted interview with the Australian Princess of Pop, Kylie Minogue.
Breakfast presenters Nath Valvo (from The Glory Boys with James & Nath) and Adrian Perillo (from Breakfast with Andy & Adrian) made the pilgrimage to Kylie Minogue’s hotel room this afternoon and were the only community radio organisation to be provided an interview.
They carried gifts including flowers, t-shirts and an Honourary Membership to JOY 94.9 for her incredible contribution to disco. The boys had a brilliant time with the Ms Minogue, and Nath even asked Kylie to sign his arm (which will be tattooing over tonight!).
You can hear the interview in two parts airing on breakfast over Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 July, and then airing in full on Sound Museum on Tuesday night.
JOY 94.9 would like to thank all the volunteers and media outlets that supported this campaign. It’s rare that a community organisation is able to participate in such a large media event as this, but when it came to Kylie, we knew we had to go all out!
Music coordinator and co-host of The Glory Boys, James Findlay, thought it was about time Minogue came into the station.
“Considering the last time Kylie was interviewed on JOY was in 1997, I think now might be around the right time for her to pay us another visit.
“Social media, such as Twitter, allows just about anyone to get in contact with celebrities these days – and she tweeted back to us [JOY 94.9] saying, ‘hey, It’s really hard when you’re up against the media big-guns such as Austereo and NOVA.’”
Co-host on The Glory Boys and huge Kylie fan, Nath Valvo came up with the idea for the video and even funded the video himself.
“The initial idea was to recreate the All The Lovers film clip, but JOY doesn’t have the budget to dress one hundred people in hot pants, so we improvised a bit,” Valvo told Same Same.
The clip was filmed in the streets of the City of Melbourne, and involves JOY 94.9 volunteers and members carrying giant letters to make the words KYLIE CALL JOY.
Warner Music Australia are aware of JOY 94.9’s request for interview and are reported by the station to be doing their best to connect the broadcaster with the much loved singer.
Come on, Charlene!
Meanwhile, a Facebook campaign has started up in an attempt to get Kylie Minogue back on a special episode of Neighbours, the show which launched the star’s career back in the ‘80s.
“Kylie’s two years in Neighbours is still one of the most talked about parts of the show 20 years on! Her wedding to Scott Robinson (Jason Donovan) attracted 23 million viewers in Britain and saw thousands of hysterical fans turn up to Australian promotional events,” say the campaign’s organizers.
“Kylie herself became the first person to win 4 Logie awards in one night. Kylie’s appearance in Neighbours coincided with the show arriving in the U.K, and many think that each helped the other become a hit. It’s been too long between Kylie appearances on Neighbours! She will be in Australia late July 2010 for a promo tour for her new album. With Neighbours’ 25 year anniversary taking place this August, what better time to campaign to get Charlene back on the show!”
The group’s organisers hope to get 100,000 fans to ‘like’ the page by 16th July to help make their dream come true, but so far the Facebook campaign to get Minogue to revive her Charlene role has so far earned 870 ‘likes’.[youtube UlMut1ToJK0] [youtube BKgTTFm2650]
